Safety & Assurance

What it involves

Safety and assurance work covers identifying hazards, assessing and managing the risks they present, and building the argument — supported by real evidence, not assertion — that a system is acceptably safe to operate. That argument, and the evidence underneath it, needs to hold together under genuinely independent scrutiny: a safety case is only as strong as its weakest claim, and reviewers are trained to find the weakest claim.

Why it matters

On safety-critical electrical and electronic systems, an assurance argument with a gap in it isn't a paperwork problem — it's a real risk left unmanaged. Regulators, customers and independent assessors will find weak evidence, glossed-over residual risk, or claims that don't trace back to anything concrete. We'd rather surface those gaps ourselves, early, than have an assessor find them for us. A safety case built honestly from the start survives scrutiny; one assembled retrospectively to justify a decision already made usually doesn't.
